Who we are
Cape Town Bonds is an independent bond origination firm based in Century City, Cape Town. We help homebuyers and property investors apply to multiple banks through a single application, and we guide that application from pre-qualification through to registration.
For the purposes of POPIA, Cape Town Bonds is the responsible party for the personal information described in this policy.
Information we collect
We collect information you provide directly to us — when you complete a bond application, contact us about our services, or use our bond calculator. This may include:
- Personal identification — name, South African ID number, date of birth, contact details
- Financial information — income, expenses, employment details, bank statements, credit history
- Property information — purchase price, location, property type
- Communications — enquiries, correspondence and notes from our discussions with you
Our bond calculator runs entirely in your browser. The figures you enter are not transmitted to us or stored.
How we use your information
- To process your bond application and provide origination services
- To submit applications to banks and financial institutions on your behalf
- To communicate with you about your application and our services
- To comply with legal and regulatory requirements, including FICA verification
- To improve our services and the experience of working with us
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for automated decision-making that produces legal consequences for you.
Who we share it with
Bond origination only works by submitting your application to lenders. We share your information with:
- Banks and financial institutions — to obtain bond quotes and process applications
- Bond attorneys and conveyancers — to register the bond and transfer the property
- Credit bureaux — where a credit assessment is required for your application
- Service providers — who help us deliver our services and are bound to protect your information
- Regulatory authorities — where the law requires it
How long we keep it
We keep your personal information only as long as necessary for the purposes described above, and for as long as the law requires us to. Records connected to a bond application are generally retained for at least five years after the end of the relationship, in line with FICA record-keeping obligations. Once no longer needed, information is securely destroyed or de-identified.
To confirm before publishing: check this retention period against your own FICA and internal record-keeping practice, and adjust if it differs.
How we protect it
We apply appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your personal information against loss, unauthorised access, alteration, disclosure or destruction. Access is limited to those who need it to do their work.
No method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. If a breach occurs that creates a real risk of harm to you, we will notify you and the Information Regulator as POPIA requires.
Sending information outside South Africa
Some of the service providers we use — including our website hosting — may store or process information on servers outside South Africa. Where that happens, we take reasonable steps to ensure your information receives a level of protection comparable to that required under POPIA.
This website
This website does not use advertising or tracking cookies. Our hosting provider collects standard technical request logs, such as IP address and browser type, for security and reliability. Links to third-party sites — including our online application portal — are governed by those sites' own privacy policies.
Your rights
Under POPIA you have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you
- Request correction of information that is inaccurate or incomplete
- Request deletion of your information, subject to our legal retention obligations
- Object to the processing of your information in certain circumstances
- Withdraw consent, where our processing relies on your consent
- Lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator
